North American Stainless in Ghent, KY is seeking a West Crane Operator to support slabs through unloading, loading, weighing, and grinding preparation. You will handle slabs, ensure accuracy, and maintain a safe work environment within the rolling process.

Responsibilities

• Pile scheduled campaigns for the Hot Rolling Mill.
• Prepare slabs for grinding with correct weights and work codes.
• Visually inspect slabs for defects.
• Follow all safety rules and JSA procedures.
• Maintain housekeeping and perform maintenance tasks as needed.
• Coordinate with torch operator to identify slabs before unloading.
• Assist with cutting slabs as required.

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

This position of West Crane Operator is responsible for all operating functions as listed below.

Running the crane must be understood in total with the focus of utilizing the equipment to meet all the quality and productivity goals as outlined in our quality system.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Unload slabs from trucks.
• Unload and load grinders in bay.
• Unload slabs from Melt Shop Caster table and weigh each slab at caster scale in a timely manner to Melt Shop Stoppages.
• Pile scheduled campaigns for the Hot Rolling Mill.
• Prepare slab for grinding including weights and work codes.
• Visual check for defects on slabs.
• Help inspection with temperature in ferritic and hot charging.
• Stack slab bell covers and use as needed.
• Load/unload weight scale for grinders.
• Operator flip table.
• Check scales at grinder with test weight.
• Maintain 6S in the work area.
• Miscellaneous: Performed as necessary
• Follow all prescribed safety rules and JSA's
• Housekeeping/Maintenance work assigned.
• Swap caster crop buckets as needed.
• Work with torch operator to ensure all slabs have proper identification before unloading off runout.
• Work with torch operator to complete cut slabs.

SUPPLEMENTAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Other duties as assigned
• Participation in relevant continuous improvement programs.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum of High School Degree or Equivalent (GED), basic computer skills, strong communications skills.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES REQUIRED

• Mobility in plant
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, etc.
• The employee is frequently required to make use of their hands for technical tasks
• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
