Role Overview
The Host/Hostess creates a larger‑than‑home experience for our hotel guests by offering welcoming, helpful, and exceptional service while maintaining a clean, comfortable, and inviting environment.
Responsibilities
- Maintain warm, hospitable guest relations and respond to individual guest needs as they occur.
- Greet all guests warmly and enthusiastically upon arrival and seat them at their table, providing a menu and general information about the restaurant and server.
- Prepare and maintain a list of guests waiting to be seated, communicating with the guests throughout their estimated waiting time.
- Check‑in guests to ensure satisfaction with each food course and/or beverage, thank guests as they depart, and invite them to return.
- Offer amenities while guests dine (activity sheets, crayons, lamps, reading glasses, water service, pashminas).
- Ensure chits are distributed to the appropriate server/bartender or sushi counter.
- Maintain the host stand and lobby area; return all electronics to the office for charging, and whip down menus that are damaged.
- Communicate any allergies or special events the guests are celebrating to the Food and Beverage teams.
- Respond to and resolve all guest requests, complaints, or questions in a courteous and timely manner.
- Contact managers if assistance is needed.
- Answer phone calls and respond to messages via OpenTable and/or phone/voicemails; call and confirm reservations.
- Identify when to adjust the pace of seating to ensure proper service.
- Execute all procedures and standards, including Forbes Standards, Hotel Standard Operating Procedures, and policies.
- Report all items in need of repair to supervisor and maintain equipment used in work.
- Protect guest safety and well‑being.
- Assume responsibility for personal growth and development.
- Work to resolve disagreements and be respectful of peers and co‑workers.
- Follow all Ko’a Kea Hotel & Resort policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the English language to communicate with guests, associates, and vendors.
- Knowledge of all hotel departments and functions.
- Good mathematical and basic computer skills.
- Experience with OpenTable (preferred).
- Ability to actively listen and communicate effectively in loud environments.
- Ability to learn quickly and work in a fast‑paced position with constant guest interaction.
- Ability to multi‑task.
- Physical ability to lift, push, and pull a minimum of 20 pounds and perform actions such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, standing, and handling materials.
- Team‑playing ability.
- High school education (required); one year in a Host/Hostess position preferred.
