Job summary

The Hops Spot in Syracuse, NY is seeking a friendly, guest-focused Host to welcome guests, seat them, and help ensure an exceptional dining experience. You will greet guests, provide menus, and coordinate seating with the service team.

You are a natural people person with strong organization and communication skills. This in-person, full- and part-time role offers $12/hour plus tips, and a supportive team culture that values work-life balance.

Qualifications

• Previous restaurant hosting or serving experience preferred.
• Friendly and customer-focused personality.
• Ability to articulate clear greetings and farewells to guests.
• Ability to communicate guests’ needs to Servers, Bussers, Managers, etc.
• Ability to effectively communicate on the telephone.
• Must be able to carry trays or supplies (10-30 lbs.).

Responsibilities

• Greet guests and seat them at tables or in waiting areas
• Provide guests with menus
• Assign patrons to tables suitable for their needs and according to rotation so that servers receive an appropriate number of seating’s
• Inform guests of current promotions and who will be serving them to ensure a smooth handoff to the service staff
• Manage the flow of guests into the dining and bar areas, and provide accurate wait times to incoming guests if appropriate
• Operate cash registers to accept payments for food and beverages
• Answer the phone.
• Take to-go orders when necessary and manage third party delivery services receive proper orders
• Keep the host stand neat, tidy, and presentable for guests.
• Table Maintenance:Promptly remove dirty plates, glassware, and napkins after each course or as soon as guests depart.
• Table Resetting:Wipe down and sanitize tables, chairs, and booths. Reset them with clean linens, tableware, and condiments.
• Server Support:Assist waitstaff and bartenders by running food, refilling water glasses, and delivering drinks during busy periods.
• Sanitation:Dispose of trash, clean up spills, and manage dish bins in accordance with health and safety codes.
