POSITION SUMMARY:
The Host/Hostess is an essential team member dedicated to providing exceptional service to our guests. As the first impression of the restaurant, the host/hostess greets guests graciously with eye contact and a smile, promptly and courteously attending to their needs. They remain friendly and engaging while managing reservations, the waiting list, and calculating table turn times. They also communicate guest requests to servers and managers, answer phones, and proactively anticipate seating delays.
Responsibilities
- Monitor guest entry and exit, greet guests, maintain waitlist and seating chart, inform guests when their table is ready, escort guests to their seats, provide menus, and inform them of their server's name.
- Use Open Table to take reservations, review the reservation book, and seat guests without reservations.
- Have a thorough knowledge of menus, daily unavailable items, and be familiar with frequent guests’ names and preferences.
- Manage seating rotation to ensure smooth workflow, understanding server stations, assignments, and workload capacities.
- Oversee dining room function during service, relay information, seek guest feedback, and ensure a congenial atmosphere.
- Answer dining room phones, take reservations, and handle messages.
- Address guest service issues promptly and graciously, reporting to the Restaurant Manager as needed.
- Complete table checks, operate cash register, reconcile cash, and follow cash handling policies.
- Maintain cleanliness of workstation and surrounding areas.
- Ensure presence at the host stand at all times.
- Communicate guest preferences verbally and via printed chits.
- Notify management of seating delays proactively.
- Assist servers and bus persons as needed, ensuring efficient food service.
- Wear uniform and meet grooming policies.
- Act professionally, maintaining positive communication and teamwork.
- Follow all company policies and standards.
Requirements
- Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Excellent personal presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Effective communication with guests, colleagues, and supervisors.
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and think clearly under pressure.
- Knowledge of menus, ingredients, and restaurant details.
- Understanding of sanitation standards and computer operations.
- Ability to absorb information quickly and multitask.
- Good attendance and punctuality, flexible to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.
Physical Demands
- Stand and walk throughout an 8-hour shift.
- Reach, talk, hear, handle objects, lift trays up to 40 pounds.
Experience
- Minimum 16 years old (21 for alcohol service).
- Previous host or server experience preferred.
- Successful completion of restaurant training.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred or in progress.
- At least 1 year of restaurant or customer service experience.
Personal Protective Equipment
- Closed toe, non-canvas, non-skid shoes.
