Job summary

University of Maryland Medical System Corporation seeks an experienced leader to manage the hospital-wide Infection Prevention program across the Downtown and Midtown campuses, spanning inpatient, ambulatory, and affiliated care settings.

You will supervise Infection Prevention staff, coordinate surveillance and outbreak response, and drive compliance with regulatory standards while partnering with clinical and operational leaders to implement evidence-based practices.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a healthcare field (Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, Microbiology, etc.).
• Current Maryland licensure applicable to discipline (RN or Medical Technologist).
• CIC certification or eligibility to obtain within two years of hire.
• Minimum of four years of progressively responsible infection prevention experience in an acute care setting.
• Minimum of two years of leadership, supervisory, project management, or team lead experience.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operations of the Infection Prevention program across campuses.
• Supervise, coach, mentor, develop, and evaluate Infection Prevention staff including recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and performance.
• Coordinate infection surveillance activities and ensure accurate identification, investigation, and reporting of infections per regulatory standards.
• Lead outbreak investigations, communicable disease response, exposure investigations, and preparedness efforts with clinical and public health partners.
• Analyze surveillance data, identify trends, and communicate findings to leadership to support harm reduction.
• Collaborate with nursing, physicians, APs, and operations to implement prevention practices across care continuum.
• Coordinate regulatory reporting and support compliance with CDC, CMS, The Joint Commission, MDH, and others.
• Support environmental infection prevention activities, including water management and disinfection practices.
• Develop, coordinate, and deliver infection prevention education and competency programs for staff, learners, and leaders.
• Work with the Director to implement goals and serve as operational lead for Infection Prevention.
• Represent Infection Prevention on committees and workgroups; participate in quality and safety initiatives.
• Provide operational leadership in the Director's absence.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
