Rutherford Regional Health System in Rutherfordton, NC is seeking a dedicated Switchboard Operator. In this role you will manage multi-line calls, coordinate with staff and emergency responders, and ensure patient confidentiality.

The ideal candidate will handle routine inquiries, relay overhead announcements, monitor alarms, and operate multiple communication systems. Shifts include nights, weekends, and holidays in a 24/7 hospital setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Strong communication skills with patients, visitors, staff, and responders.
• Ability to stay calm and act quickly in emergencies.
• Excellent multitasking and attention to detail.
• Willingness to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Experience with HIPAA and patient confidentiality preferred.
• One year of telecommunications or switchboard experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Manage multiple calls, emergencies, and urgent requests with professionalism.
• Coordinate with hospital staff, responders, and security.
• Route calls and inquiries while maintaining patient confidentiality.
• Deliver overhead announcements, code pages, and disaster notifications.
• Monitor alarms and notify parties as needed.
• Operate switchboards, radios, phones, paging systems, and related software.
• Maintain logs, admissions/discharges, and contact records.
• Demonstrate reliability and teamwork across shifts.
