Northwestern Medicine is seeking a Security Officer I to uphold safety across the hospital environment. This casual role requires flexible hours and adherence to ethics and compliance standards.

You will monitor access, investigate incidents, and coordinate with emergency services as needed, while supporting patients, staff and visitors. The position emphasizes teamwork, reporting accuracy, and professional conduct in daily operations and during emergencies.

Qualifications

• High‑school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• IAHSS Basic exam within 90 days of hire; maintain IAHSS Basic certification.
• BLS certification from American Heart Association within 9 months of hire.
• Northwestern Medicine Defensive Tactics in Healthcare within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Investigates and quells hospital incidents and disturbances to maintain safety.
• Completes descriptive reports for supervisory personnel.
• Notifies city officials (police and fire) and prepares reports.
• Patrols hospital buildings and grounds to protect patients and property; includes on foot and mobile patrols.
• Investigates hazardous conditions, theft, crime, or safety issues as reported.
• Monitors access control, alarms, and video systems.
• Controls traffic to ensure EMS access and patient/visitor safety.
• Provides escorts for staff to vehicles when requested.
• Responds to emergency codes per guidelines.
• Enforces hospital policies and maintains professional image.
