Job summary

University of Iowa Health Care in Iowa City seeks a Hospital Security Officer to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff across the hospital buildings and grounds. You will perform security checks, assist with wayfinding, respond to incidents, and enforce policies while working a 2nd shift (1500-2300) and 3rd shift (2300-0700).

The role is full-time with on-campus work and a starting hourly wage of $18.72 plus shift differential.

Qualifications

• Two years of security and safety experience, or related alternatives as listed.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) desired.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff entering the hospital.
• Assist with wayfinding and information to patients, visitors, and staff.
• Perform security checks, patrol facility, and monitor special assignments.
• Conduct incident investigations and provide documentation for follow-up.
• Respond to and assist in all incidents regarding safety and security.
• Respond to lock/unlock doors, troubleshoot elevator problems and extricate as needed, and assist in traffic/parking enforcement.
• Respond to and resolve emergencies such as fire, HazMat, and security alarms.
• Provide security surveillance of institution, including psychiatric units.
• Maintain a working knowledge of computers to process data, operate fire alarm systems, and security systems.
• Escort to parking ramps and outlying areas.
• Perform safekeeping procedures.
• Provide effective oral and written communication.
• Enforce all institution policies and procedures.

• Provide exceptional customer service to patients, visitors, and staff entering the hospital
• Assist with wayfinding and information to patients, visitors, and staff
• Perform security checks, patrol facility, and monitor special assignments
• Conduct incident investigations and provide documentation for follow-up

Minimum Eligibility Requirements

• Two years’ experience in security and safety, or fire safety, or law enforcement; or
• One year of post-high school education related to security and safety and on year of experience in security and safety; or
• Two years of post-high school education related to security and safety
• Possession of appropriate driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards.
• Ability to obtain basic certification from International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) within 6 months of hire and maintain certification for duration of employment.

Desirable Requirements

• Two years of customer service experience
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer software applications (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc)
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Key Training/Compliances

• IAHSS Basic Online Course to be completed within 6 months of start date
• Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) 8 hour - to be completed in first 90 days
• Health Safety Professional (HSP) - to be completed in first 90 days
