Job summary

MedStar Health’s Washington Hospital Center is seeking a dedicated Security Officer to protect patients, staff, and visitors in a 24/7 hospital environment. You will patrol the premises, respond to emergencies, and support the safety program by enforcing policies and reporting incidents.

The role requires the ability to deescalate crises, monitor CCTV and access control, and mentor junior officers. State certifications may be pursued, and a valid driver’s license is required to operate security

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 1-2 years of MedStar satisfactory performance as a Security Officer I and SPO commissioned required or
• 5-7 years of total related security or law enforcement experience (inside or outside of MedStar) required
• Valid State Driver's License in good standing required
• MD Special Police Commission preferred or DC SPO
• SPO ongoing training required to maintain commission in MD/DC
• IAHSS Certification as a Security Officer preferred
• CPR certification for healthcare providers within 90 days required
• Additional certifications may vary by department
• Must complete MedStar initial training related to violence prevention de-escalation and crisis prevention

Responsibilities

• Contributes to department goals and adheres to policies and safety standards.
• Assists supervisor with daily shift supervision and monitoring of officers.
• Acts as a resource or mentor to security staff.
• Conducts in-service training.
• Assists with training of new associates.
• Collects and secures patient valuables and lost articles.
• Conducts designated security patrols of the facility.
• Monitors conditions and reports safety or law violations.
• Responds to emergencies and code calls.
• Monitors CCTV and access control systems.
• Documents investigations and prepares incident reports.
• Testifies in legal proceedings as required.
• Works cross-functionally to ensure safe environments.
• Represents the department in community outreach efforts.
