UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital is seeking a full-time Safety Officer to oversee safety, security, and fire safety functions across the Institute. The role requires daily hands-on safety tasks, patient and staff protection, and collaboration with medical and security teams.

The position may involve shift variation; a sign-on bonus up to $1,500 is offered. High school diploma or equivalent and 1 year of relevant experience are preferred, with additional certifications as required by policy.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year of experience in safety, security or related healthcare field preferred.
• Equivalent experience considered.

Responsabilités

• Conduct searches according to policy regarding customer service responsibilities and paperwork.
• Meet mandatory education and annual competency requirements for the position, including age-specific competencies.
• Perform hands-on physical restraint techniques to control violent or combative patients and maintain safety.
• Provide relief coverage for safety systems clerks and parking lot attendants as assigned.
• Conduct proactive safety, security and fire safety patrols; report unsafe conditions and violations.
• Assist clinical staff in care and safety of patients, staff or visitors who are uncooperative; respond professionally.
• Review communications daily (email, grease board, etc.) as directed by managers.
• Assist during fires, medical emergencies or disaster drills; coordinate with authorities as needed.
• Develop professionalism per Institute standards and complete mandatory training programs.
• Provide escort service for patients, staff, and visitors when needed.
• Investigate reports of incidents (theft, suspicious activity, vandalism, etc.).
• Test alarm systems and equipment, including fire extinguishers and security alarms.
