Job summary

Edgewood Surgical Hospital is seeking a patient registration specialist to support the hospital business office. Primary duties include admitting and registering patients for procedures, and entering demographic and billing data into the system.

You will handle daily encounters, balance to co-payments, collect balances at check-in, answer inquiries, and coordinate with nursing staff. The role requires clear communication and attention to detail in a busy clinical environment.

Qualifications

  • Must possess good oral and written skills and communicate with hospital contacts at all levels.
  • Knowledge of medical/surgical terminology.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.

  • May be exposed to chemicals, hazardous waste, communicable diseases, blood and bloodborne pathogens.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple assignments and work independently with minimal supervision.

Performs necessary functions to support various areas within hospital business office. Primary duties include support for patient registration and pre-registration.

Essential Functions

The position’s primary functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Admit and register patients on day of procedures
  • Ensure all papers are properly filled out and input into system.
  • Enter and verify that all patient demographics and billing information correctly entered/verified at time of check in.
  • Process encounters daily for and balance to co-payments.
  • Collect balances due at time of check in.
  • Direct patients to relevant areas of building.
  • Obtain signed statements.
  • Record payments.
  • Keep admission desk clean and organized.
  • Contact nurses and doctors about surgeries and meetings
  • Demonstrates safe work habits through compliance with work-related policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to policies, procedures, all safety plans, and all standards imposed by regulatory organizations.
  • Demonstrates cost consciousness through efficient use of time, materials, staff, equipment, supplies and available resources.
  • Consistently utilizes spare-time to benefit unit, patients, and co-workers.
  • Provides directions to areas within organization.
  • Establishes and maintains a good rapport and cooperative relationship with medical staff, co-workers, supervisors and others.
