Job summary

Southshorehealth in Norwell, MA is seeking a full-time Phlebotomist to join the SMC Phlebotomy team. You will perform phlebotomy procedures (venipuncture, fingerstick, heelstick) and ensure proper patient identification and specimen labeling.

You will prioritize STAT draws, maintain accurate records, and support lab workflow across rounds and receptions. Ideal candidates will follow safety procedures, document results, and assist with training as needed.

Responsibilities

• Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, heelstick) according to established procedure of South Shore Hospital.
• Identifies patients and properly labels specimen tubes.
• Determines priority of STAT draws and ensures timely transport of specimens to lab.
• Utilizes computers for order entry, generates collection lists, and prints labels.
• Organizes workload and ensures all assigned patients are drawn by end of shift.
• Assists co-workers and communicates with lab departments to maintain workflow.
• Assists in training new employees and student interns at SSH&EC.
• Follows all hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
• Adapts to changes in assignment and performs related duties as needed.
• Acts as receptionist in outpatient lab when required and maintains courteous patient interaction.
• Maintains cleanliness of phlebotomy areas and restocks supplies.
• Records daily refrigerator temperatures and notifies supervisor of issues.
• Demonstrates safety awareness and adherence to universal precautions.
