Job summary

UF Health Flagler Hospital is seeking a dedicated Phlebotomist to perform venipuncture, specimen collection, and patient instruction in a fast-paced laboratory setting in St. Augustine, FL.

The role may involve working at multiple lab locations and floating between departments as needed to support patient care. Required education is a high school diploma or GED, with preferred certifications in medical assisting or related programs and at least two years of clinical or hospital phlebotomy

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Preferred: Certification from a medical assistant program.
• Preferred: Certification from a military medical or laboratory assistant program.
• Two years of clinical or hospital phlebotomy experience preferred.
• Experience with a laboratory information system for accessioning and tracking samples is a plus.
• N/A licensure/certifications.

Responsibilities

• Draw blood in a safe manner with minimal patient discomfort.
• Verify patient identity using two identifiers; label specimens with required information.
• Collect blood samples from all age groups including newborns, pediatrics, adults, and geriatrics.
• Provide instruction and training on theory, techniques, safety, and procedures to students and staff.
• Follow safety standards and wear PPE; adhere to laboratory policies.
• Understand specimen requirements and consult resources to ensure correct collection; resolve unusual orders with providers and staff.
• Resolve unusual orders by contacting the provider and notifying supervisors/managers.
• Monitor inventory and inform supervisor when ordering supplies is needed.
