Job summary

Memorial Hermann Health System is seeking a Pharmacy Technician to assist the Pharmacist in providing pharmaceutical care. Qualifications

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Education: High school diploma or GED required.
• Licenses/Certifications: Current Pharmacy Tech registration or Pharmacist intern registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy required; ACPE IV Certification with 40-hour course in IV admixture preferred.
• Sterile Products Certification through accredited program is required if incumbent compounds sterile products.
• Experience/Knowledge/Skills: 1–2 years hospital pharmacy experience preferred; knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Selects prescribed medications according to dosage and strength indicated on patient medication file or cart-fill list.
• Receives merchandise and places into inventory.
• Monitors inventory for out-of-stock or out-of-date items.
• Delivers medications to patient care areas.
• Inspects and maintains emergency medication trays.
• Packages and labels unit dose liquids/tablets; maintains pre-pack records.
• Loads drugs into automated dispensing system (PYXIS); maintains inventory for non-automated areas.
• Responds to medication requests from nursing and other departments.
• Ensures medications comply with safety checks.
• Prepares sterile products aseptically when needed.
• Assists with medication histories and liaises with physicians as needed.
• Manages pharmaceutical waste properly.
• Supports preceptor role and ongoing education.
