Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Texas Pharmacy Tech registration or Pharmacist intern registration required.
• ACPE IV Certification with 40-hour course preferred.
• Sterile product certification required if compounding sterile products.
• 3 years hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Select prescribed medications according to dosage and strength for patient care areas.
• Deliver medications to patient care areas and monitor inventory levels.
• Maintain emergency medication trays and monitors.
• Package and label unit dose medications; maintain pre-pack records.
• Respond to medication requests from nursing and departments.
• Process pharmaceutical charges and review patient billing accuracy.
• Prepare intravenous antimicrobials, large volume parenterals, TPN solutions, epidurals and IV antineoplastics.
• Document quality improvement activities for the IV room and aseptic technique.
• Ensure medications comply with safety checks and standards.
• Prepares sterile products in aseptic manner when appropriate.
• Assist customers as liaison and gather medication histories if applicable.
• Manage pharmaceutical waste and adhere to policies.
