Job summary

Texas Orthopedic Hospital in Houston is seeking a Transporter to support the Surgical Support Services. You will be responsible for the safe transport of patients to and from the Surgical Support Department, assist nurses with patient care, and ensure patient dignity and comfort during movement.

Role emphasizes infection control, timely scheduling, and equipment safety. Training, workshops, and ongoing learning are encouraged to support growth and adherence to hospital policies.

Qualifications

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date

Responsibilities

• Transports patients to and from department, after proper identification of patients, in a timely manner to minimize potential delays in department schedule.
• Assured that the patient is properly clothed and covered to maintain dignity.
• Notifies appropriate personnel of patient's arrival in the department.
• Thoroughly cleans the wheelchairs and stretchers with appropriate disinfectants daily or as needed.
• Check all transport equipment for safety risks and reports needed repairs to management.
• Consistently, it remains in the work area assisting unless otherwise requested.
• Communicate effectively with patients, department personnel, and other personnel in the hospital to fulfill position responsibilities.
• Receives and records telephone messages for the department in a courteous and professional manner.
• Prioritizes activities of self in collaboration with the Director of Surgical Support based on department demands.
• Maintains own growth through the utilization of workshops, in-services, and other self-directed learning activities.
• Maintains awareness of current hospital and departmental operational policies and procedures which impact on position responsibilities.
• Actively participates in departmental meetings with a focus on providing input regarding improving the quality of services in the department.
