Job summary

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Associate degree in health information management preferred.
• Bachelor's degree in health information management preferred.
• 2 years coding experience required.
• Surgery coding experience preferred.
• Certification CCS/RHIT/RHIA required or achievable within 180 days.

Responsibilities

• Review and code patient records in hospital outpatient settings (surgery-focused).
• Apply ICD and CPT codes per Official Coding Guidelines with accuracy.
• Evaluate diagnosis and procedure codes and modifiers for coding edits.
• Validate documentation to reflect clinical picture, treatment and diagnoses.
• Identify missing or inconsistent documentation and obtain it promptly.
• Maintain coding accuracy and productivity standards.
