Job summary

Island Health is seeking a Nutrition Assistant for a part-time role (0.4 FTE) on weekends with some weekdays, based on-site in Washington. The Nutrition Assistant compiles dietary information for kitchen staff and supports the Director of Food Services, Dietitians, and Lead Cook to ensure accurate patient meals.

You will handle room service orders with strong telephone skills, process diet orders, tally statistics, prepare and deliver meals, and assist with tray line prep while upholding quality

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required.
• Current Food and Beverage Worker's Permit required.
• At least 1 year of institutional food service experience preferred.
• Ability to interact positively with patients and staff.
• Knowledge of growth and development across lifespan and patient age-related needs.

Responsibilities

• Take room service orders from patients with exceptional telephone skills.
• Process diet orders and write patient menus based on diet orders.
• Tallies and records department statistics.
• Interact positively with Administration, Directors, Managers, Supervisors, peers, staff, patients and visitors.
• Prepare and serve patient trays and beverages; deliver special food orders as needed.
• Observe and record temperatures of refrigerators and freezers.
• Perform other kitchen work as assigned.
• Complete prep work to efficiently run tray line.
• Support Continuous Quality Improvement principles in line with hospital performance improvement.
