Job summary

Northern Cochise Community Hospital is seeking a detail-oriented Medical Records Coder to assign and review diagnosis and procedure codes for hospital records. This role collaborates with Health Information Management leadership to promote accurate documentation and compliant coding for payer, government, and state requirements.

The successful candidate will perform outpatient, ER, and inpatient coding, maintain confidentiality, and communicate effectively with the HIM team.

Qualifications

• Certified CPC; hospital-focused coding certification preferred.
• Two years in a medical records setting.
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

Responsibilities

• Perform diagnostic and procedural coding for outpatient and ER services.
• Code inpatient admission records as assigned.
• Review medical records for complete and compliant documentation.
• Apply ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS classifications with proper support.
• Review charges, units, modifiers, and edits for accuracy.
• Research coding issues and communicate findings to HIM Manager.
• Assist with coding corrections during audits and state reviews.
• Participate in department meetings and other duties as assigned.
