Job summary

St Mary’s Health Care System in Athens is seeking a second shift HVAC/R maintenance technician to perform preventive maintenance on building systems, respond to requests, and assist with complex repairs. The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent with HVAC/R training preferred and at least two years in maintenance.

You will read blueprints and regulatory documents, lift heavy equipment, and work with hospital staff, patients, and vendors while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; HVAC/R training preferred.
• 2+ years in a maintenance field with basic knowledge of building systems.
• Able to lift/move equipment per maintenance standards.
• Able to read blueprints, manuals, schematics and regulatory docs.
• Willing to work rotating shifts including weekends or on-call.
• Strong customer service and teamwork with hospital staff.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine preventive maintenance on building systems, equipment and fixtures.
• Respond to basic maintenance requests from clinical and non-clinical departments promptly.
• Assist senior mechanics with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and medical support repairs.
• Conduct minor repairs such as replacing bulbs, fixtures, tightening hardware, patching surfaces.
• Inspect equipment to identify safety hazards or maintenance needs.
• Document all work in the hospital’s maintenance management system.
• Follow safety protocols including infection control and PPE use.
• Support emergency response efforts during outages or incidents.
• Maintain tools and work areas in clean, safe condition.
