Job summary

UCLA Health and David Geffen School of Medicine is seeking a Laboratory Technician with phlebotomy skills to prepare specimens, perform order entry, and support new processes across multiple BURL locations in the Los Angeles area.

The role requires a California Phlebotomy Technician certification, a high school diploma, and 2+ years in a busy lab. Weekend and holiday coverage is required; proficiency with LIS/HIS and MS Office is expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED/HiSET).
• California Certified Phlebotomy Technician certification.
• 2 years of recent experience in a high-volume testing laboratory preferred.
• Must be able to work weekends, holidays and other shifts.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
• Excellent communication, organization and time management skills.
• Skill in performing related computer procedures (LIS, HIS).
• Knowledgeable in quality assurance practices, preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare specimens for analysis: label, centrifuge aliquot, receive and follow up when specimens are unacceptable.
• Perform accurate computer order entry functions.
• Assist in validation and implementation of new processes, software and/or equipment.
• Answer calls and provide accurate and appropriate information.
• Record and review maintenance records for accuracy.
• Assess overall workload and help coworkers without being reassigned by the supervisor.
• Must cover at any of the BURL sites.
