The role requires a ServSafe certification, a high school diploma or GED, and readiness for rotating shifts including weekends and holidays. Preference is given to DC residents and DC high school graduates.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of sanitation, cleanliness, infection control and food-service practices in a hospital setting
  • Ability to use kitchen utensils and equipment safely
  • Current ServSafe Certification is required at the time of application
  • Residency preference for DC residents and DC high school graduates
  • Must be able to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food by washing, sorting, peeling, and dicing fruits and vegetables; prepare salad ingredients and eggs for cooking
  • Open canned foods; grease pans and prepare cooking vessels; handle meat, fish, and poultry for next day meals
  • Load and unload food carts and containers; assist with transportation to serving areas and deliveries
  • Maintain records of food temperatures, refrigerator temps, and inventory
  • Attend on-the-job training and apply safety and sanitation practices in a hospital environment
