Job summary

Baystate Wing Hospital in Palmer, MA is seeking an HVAC Technician to perform inspections, maintenance and installation of HVAC and refrigeration equipment across Baystate Medical Center facilities. The role reports to the Supervisor of HVAC and ensures safe, reliable operation of systems in patient care areas and ancillary buildings.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance via CMMS, diagnostic repairs, managing chillers and air handling units, and supporting on-call rotations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Chlorofluorocarbon Certification - EPA.
• Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Assist in managing preventative maintenance via CMMS and maintain regulatory documentation.
• Diagnose and repair HVAC/refrigeration systems from service requests; communicate status to staff.
• Maintain air-cooled chillers, central station air handling units, rooftop units, PTACs, data center CRACs, and pumps.
• Maintain refrigeration systems for food service, labs, walk-in coolers/freezers, and medical ice machines.
• Diagnose refrigeration issues using gauges, charts, and measurements; perform brazing, soldering as needed.
• Maintain gas-fired boilers, heating pumps, and distribution piping and controls.
• Maintain air distribution systems and ensure proper pressure in controlled areas (pharmacy, ORs, sterile rooms).
• Maintain HVAC control systems (pneumatic, electric, DDC) and troubleshoot controls.
• Read HVAC drawings and apply psychrometric principles for air mixing results.
• Participate in on-call rotation for nights, weekends, and holidays; respond to emergencies.
• Monitor parts inventory; procure per hospital procedures and manage vendor relationships.
