Job summary

Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA) Somerville campus is seeking a full-time HVAC/Refrigeration Technician to join the Repairs and Maintenance team. You will perform HVAC and refrigeration repairs, preventative maintenance, and associated carpentry and plumbing tasks to keep hospital facilities running safely.

Under the Director of Plant Operations, you will monitor systems, troubleshoot alarms, and supervise third-party contractors on specialized installations, ensuring minimal downtime in critical

Qualifications

• Must be mechanically inclined.
• HVAC/Refrigeration Training Program certification.
• MA license as Refrigeration Technician/Contractor or equivalent.
• 3+ years of hospital/institutional HVAC & Refrigeration experience.
• Experience in basic electricity, plumbing, painting, and carpentry.
• Familiar with use of small power tools.
• HVAC 608 certification.

Responsibilities

• HVAC and Refrigeration systems monitor, maintain, and repair.
• Evaluate alarms and log data to optimize airflow and heating.
• Troubleshoot system failures and implement remedial actions to minimize downtime.
• Electrical: assist with lighting fixtures, outlets, switches, and nurse call systems.
• Plumbing: manage basic repairs including leaks and traps.
• Mechanical: inspect and replace worn parts in hospital equipment.
• Carpentry & finishes: repair furniture, doors, locks; paint and tile work.
• Safety & operations: conduct rounds and supervise contractors.
• Move furniture/equipment and assist with groundskeeping or snow removal when necessary.
• Maintain a clean, organized shop and adhere to healthcare safety guidelines.
