Job summary

Baystate Health is seeking a Full-time Mechanic to join the Equipment Repair Shop team at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA. The role focuses on preventive maintenance and repairs of hospital equipment and mechanical systems, including pumps, compressors, and safety-critical devices.

The position requires a practical background with electronics and computers, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license.
• 5+ years of mechanical building maintenance experience including pumps and compressors.
• Proficient knowledge of electronics and computers preferred.
• Experience with metal fabrication, welding and air compressor repair is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and repairs on hospital equipment, vehicles, and mechanical systems.
• Diagnose equipment issues, identify faulty operation, make adjustments, and complete repairs.
• Maintain and repair equipment such as nurse call systems, pneumatic tubes, medical air compressors, vacuum pumps, medical gas systems, and automatic doors.
• Install, assemble, maintain, and repair equipment used in patient rooms and hospital departments.
• Respond to emergency repair requests and complete work orders on time.
• Keep accurate maintenance records and order parts as needed.
• Maintain clean, safe work areas and follow safety procedures.
• Collaborate with other trades personnel, supervisors, and hospital departments to keep facilities and equipment operating.
