Job summary

Norristown State Hospital's Custodial Worker 1 supports a clean, safe, welcoming environment for patients, staff, and visitors. The role participates in essential housekeeping duties that ensure hospital operations run smoothly each day.

The position is full-time, with hours 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday–Friday, plus a 30-minute lunch. Overtime may be required; telework is not available; free parking is provided.

Qualifications

• Must be able to perform essential job functions.
• Medical examination required after conditional offer.
• Criminal history checks including PA State Police and FBI clearance.
• Veterans’ employment preference may apply.

Responsibilities

• Facility Cleaning: Dust, mop, strip, wax, and polish floors; clean baseboards and other areas.
• Room Sanitation: Clean furniture, fixtures, lavatories, beds, lockers, cabinets, and mattresses.
• Waste Removal: Collect trash and safely dispose of infectious waste.
• Building Upkeep: Wash windows, clean vents, replace light bulbs, maintain coverings.
• Grounds Support: Sweep walkways and entrances; shovel snow from pedestrian areas.
• Event Preparation: Ready buildings for trainings, conferences, dinners, and events.
