Job summary

AccentCare is seeking a Hospice Medical Director and Team Physician to provide medical leadership and direct patient care for our hospice program in Minnesota. Qualifications

  • Licensed MD or DO in the state(s) of practice with hospice/terminal illness care experience.
  • Active DEA license.
  • Active driver’s license.
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Working knowledge of hospice regulations and Medicare requirements.
  • Board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine (preferred).
  • Ten+ years of clinical experience (preferred).
  • Five+ years in a medical director or administrator role (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical leadership and oversight for hospice services to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Support clinical excellence, hospice eligibility determinations, care planning, symptom management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as a clinical leader within the Interdisciplinary Group (IDG) and contribute to care planning and quality improvement.
  • Complete required certifications, recertifications, and face-to-face encounter attestations.
  • Participate in on-call coverage to ensure 24/7 physician availability.
  • Lead and mentor hospice physicians and staff, including recruitment and performance management.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements.
  • Build relationships with physicians, hospitals, and referral partners.
  • Provide direct patient care and clinical consultation as needed.

What You Need To Know

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide medical leadership and oversight for hospice services to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Support clinical excellence, hospice eligibility determinations, care planning, symptom management, and regulatory compliance.
  • Serve as a clinical leader within the Interdisciplinary Group (IDG), contributing to care planning, team discussions, and quality improvement efforts.
  • Complete required certifications, recertifications, and face-to-face encounter attestations in accordance with hospice regulations.
  • Participate in on-call coverage to ensure continuous (24/7) physician availability and provide timely clinical support.
  • Lead and support hospice physicians through recruitment, development, mentorship, and performance management.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements.
  • Build and maintain collaborative relationships with physicians, hospitals, long-term care providers, and other referral partners.
  • Participate in professional, educational, and community activities that further the organization’s mission.
  • Provide direct patient care and clinical consultation as needed.

If you meet these qualifications, we would love to meet you:

  • Must be a licensed Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) in the state(s) of practice, with training or experience in caring for chronically or terminally ill patients
  • Maintains active DEA license
  • Active driver’s license
  • Strong understanding of primary medical care principles.
  • Working knowledge of hospice and palliative care, including pain and symptom management.
  • Familiarity with hospice regulations and Medicare requirements.
  • Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Attending Physicians and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication skills for interaction with patients, families, and providers.
  • Ability to manage complex clinical and ethical situations in end-of-life care.
  • Experience with oversight of clinical programs
  • (Preferred) Board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
  • (Preferred) Ten or more years of clinical experience
  • (Preferred) Five or more years in a medical director or other administrator role
