Job summary

AccentCare, Inc. seeks a Hospice Medical Director and Team Physician to provide medical leadership and direct patient care, guiding hospice quality and compliance while delivering bedside care and consultations.

The role partners with an interdisciplinary team to develop individualized plans of care, supports recruitment and mentoring of physicians, and ensures regulatory standards are met across the organization.

Qualifications

• Licensed MD/DO in state of practice with training or experience in end-of-life care.
• Maintains active DEA license.
• Board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine preferred; strong understanding of hospice regulations.

Responsibilities

• Provide medical leadership and oversight for hospice services to ensure high-quality, patient-centered care.
• Support clinical excellence, eligibility determinations, care planning, symptom management, and regulatory compliance.
• Serve as a clinical leader within the IDG, contributing to care planning, team discussions, and quality improvement.
• Complete required certifications, recertifications, and face-to-face encounter attestations per hospice regulations.
• Participate in on-call coverage to ensure 24/7 physician availability and timely clinical support.
• Lead and support hospice physicians through recruitment, development, mentorship, and performance management.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements.
• Build collaborative relationships with physicians, hospitals, and referral partners.
• Engage in professional, educational, and community activities that further the organization's mission.
• Provide direct patient care and clinical consultation as needed.

Overview

AccentCare is seeking a Hospice Medical Director and Team Physician to provide both medical leadership and direct patient care in support of our mission to enhance comfort, dignity, and quality of life for patients facing serious and life-limiting illnesses. In this dual role, you will serve as a key clinical leader for the hospice program, providing oversight of clinical quality, hospice eligibility determinations, symptom management, care planning, and regulatory compliance while also delivering direct patient care and consultation. You will collaborate closely with an interdisciplinary team of nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other healthcare professionals to develop individualized plans of care that support patients and families throughout their hospice journey. The Hospice Medical Director / Team Physician also serves as a mentor and resource to physicians and clinical staff and fosters strong relationships with attending physicians, hospitals, long-term care facilities, and community partners. This position combines the opportunity to make a meaningful impact at the bedside with the ability to shape clinical excellence and advance hospice care across the organization. What You Need to Know

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as a clinical leader within the Interdisciplinary Group (IDG), contributing to care planning, team discussions, and quality improvement efforts.
• Complete required certifications, recertifications, and face-to-face encounter attestations in accordance with hospice regulations.
• Participate in on-call coverage to ensure continuous (24/7) physician availability and provide timely clinical support.
• Lead and support hospice physicians through recruitment, development, mentorship, and performance management.
• Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements.
• Build and maintain collaborative relationships with physicians, hospitals, long-term care providers, and other referral partners.
• Participate in professional, educational, and community activities that further the organization's mission.
• Provide direct patient care and clinical consultation as needed.

If you meet these qualifications, we would love to meet you:

• Must be a licensed Medical Doctor (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) in the state(s) of practice, with training or experience in caring for chronically or terminally ill patients
• Maintains active DEA license
• Active driver’s license
• Strong understanding of primary medical care principles.
• Working knowledge of hospice and palliative care, including pain and symptom management.
• Familiarity with hospice regulations and Medicare requirements.
• Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with Attending Physicians and interdisciplinary teams.
• Excellent communication skills for interaction with patients, families, and providers.
• Ability to manage complex clinical and ethical situations in end-of-life care.
• Experience with oversight of clinical programs
• (Preferred) Board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
• (Preferred) Ten or more years of clinical experience
• (Preferred) Five or more years in a medical director or other administrator role
