Position Description

Department: Recreation | Title: Hopkins Facility Custodian | Classification: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Summary of Position

Performs a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled tasks in the janitorial operations of district facilities. Must be available to work nights and/or weekends on a regular basis. Hopkins Park facilities would be the primary location of work although work may be scheduled at locations throughout the district on an as-needed basis.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform routine semi-skilled interior and exterior building maintenance and document and report any repairs needed to the supervisor.
  • Perform routine custodian duties as required and assigned to including, but not limited to, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, sweeping, room organizing, supply stocking, sanitization, garbage disposal and window cleaning.
  • Directly responsible for the cleaning and organization of all Hopkins Park Community Center areas including office spaces, banquet rooms, meeting rooms, restrooms, locker rooms, concessions and bar areas, and the aquatics pool deck.
  • Assist in the set-up and tear down of equipment for various park and recreation programs or events; prepares facilities for designated program use.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and reports.
  • Request and recommend supplies and services that are necessary to the day-to-day operations to maintain safe and clean facilities.
  • Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating appropriate behavior, language, and attitude at all times.
  • Support risk management efforts by identifying potential hazards and following established safety procedures.
  • Provide first aid as needed.
  • Present a professional appearance and wear appropriate attire.
  • Follow all district policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, including emergency behavior management procedures.
Peripheral Duties
  • Participate in required district training programs.
  • Provide backup to related positions as needed.
Qualifications

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Previous custodial experience preferred.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Basic knowledge of equipment, materials, and supplies used in custodial duties.
  • Basic knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
  • Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedules.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse conditions.
  • Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
  • Ability to follow directions and give clear instructions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to handle negative feedback from patrons.
  • Ability to portray a professional image of the District.

Special Requirements:

  • Possess and maintain CPR/AED and First aid certifications or obtain within three months of employment.
Physical Demands

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties, the employee periodically works near moving mechanical parts and can be exposed to wet and or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibrations. The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level can range from low to loud, depending on the activity in the facility.
