  • Shadow the HWC Manager to cover when needed; maintain a welcoming environment.

Schedule: Academic School Year 8/13/26 through 6/10/27. Monday through Friday, 30-40 hours per week (this role is needed onsite till 6:00pm each day, start times may vary).

The Opportunity

Marin Country Day School’s Homework Cafe (HWC) is an after school program available to students in grades 5-8. Homework Cafe provides a safe, welcoming space where students can complete homework, spend time with friends, and unwind after the school day. While signed into HWC, students also have options to attend school sports games, play games inside or outside, and participate in special enrichment classes and projects. The program is led by the Homework Cafe Manager and supported by other qualified instructors. We are hiring a Homework Cafe instructor for our 2026-27 school year.

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
  • Assist with opening and closing duties to ensure space is secure and organized.
  • Set-up HWC desk including preparation of sign-in sheets for that day’s programs, sign-out sheets for balls and headphones, etc.
  • Lead staff for HWC desk including answering phone, assisting students signing in and out of HWC, assisting adults picking up students, and monitoring student use of desk phone.
  • Set up Go-Guardian on HWC laptop and help with monitoring.
  • Set-up walkies for HWC staff.
  • Maintenance of sports supplies.
  • Shadow HWC Manager to ensure coverage for the Manager when they are absent.
  • Create a warm, welcoming environment that supports both focused homework time and positive social interaction.
  • Supervise students across all program areas including outside play and attendance at MCDS sports games and communicating regularly with after school staff using radios.
  • Assist with snack as needed.
  • Engaging students with games, art and craft projects, etc.
  • Assisting in the supervision and adherence to the MCDS Responsible Use Policy for technology and the Upper School handbook
  • Provide homework support by helping students stay organized, understand assignments, and complete their work
  • Assist with late carpool duties, ensuring safe and orderly student dismissal
  • Stay attentive and responsive to the needs of students and collaborate effectively with Homework Cafe team members including around conflict resolution
  • Support additional program responsibilities as needed, including participation in Fall and Spring conference days (10/28/26 and 3/17/27).
  • Participate in HWC staff meetings and trainings to coordinate programming, share student insights, and ensure program consistency.
  • Support the hiring process of HWC staff.
  • Assist HWC Manager to develop and effectively communicate HWC guidelines in LRC.
  • Assist with the design and maintenance of HWC bulletin boards and signage.
  • Assist HWC Manager in developing and implementing new initiatives.
  • Maintain game cabinet and homework supplies.

Compensation & Benefits
  • This is a 30-40 hour a week role with a pay range of $28 - $31 per hour, commensurate with experience.
