Job summary

A Home Medical Equipment (HME) Technician II at Avera is responsible for the delivery, setup, and maintenance of medical devices—such as hospital beds, wheelchairs, and oxygen concentrators—directly to patients' homes or facilities. You will educate patients and caregivers on safe operation, perform routine cleaning and safety checks, and maintain delivery documentation.

This role requires physical lifting, independent work, and on-call shifts.

Qualifications

• Visual acuity adequate to perform position duties.
• Effective communication with others, hear, understand and distinguish speech.
• Ability to perform essential job functions and meet required hours.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain working knowledge of current HME products and regulations.
• Transport equipment safely using company vehicles and coordinate deliveries/pickups.
• Assemble medical devices on-site and provide demonstrations for patients/families.
• Complete documentation for equipment setups, deliveries, and pickups per policy.
• Process transactions including customer registrations, sales orders, transfers, deposits, returns, and autopay.
• Understand reimbursement guidelines and obtain necessary signatures for proper reimbursement.
• Conduct home visits to perform quality checks and reinforce safe equipment use.
• Perform routine preventive maintenance and minor repairs per manufacturer guidelines.
• Clean and decontaminate equipment per instructions and infection control protocols.
• Available for on-call assignments after business hours or weekends.

Education

High School or GED Equivalent
