Job Description

The VITAS Home Health Aide (HHA) is a non-exempt employee trained to provide personal care and services to hospice patients, supporting care provided by family or other caregivers. Salary Range: $17 - $21 / Hour

Assigned Job Responsibilities

• Assist patients with personal hygiene, meal planning and preparation, ambulation, and certain treatments as ordered by a physician and supervised by a nurse.
• Read and record vital signs such as temperature, pulse, and respiration.

Other Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe environment, promote mental alertness, and provide emotional support.
• Report changes in patient condition, teach basic personal care to caregivers, observe and document patient status.
• Complete at least 12 hours of in-service training annually and handle other tasks as assigned.

Restrictions

• Cannot perform sterile dressings, irrigations, catheterizations, administer medications, or care for tracheotomy tubes.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Meets personnel qualifications as per regulations, with 75 hours of training and successful competency evaluation.

Additional Requirements

• Ability to read, write, follow directions, and travel as needed.
• Availability of a telephone at home.

Physical Demands

Assist in lifting and transferring patients, lift objects over 20 pounds, stand or walk for extended periods, and perform various physical activities.

Reporting

Report directly to and receive direction from the VITAS Nurse.
