Description

Summary of Essential Functions for the Position:

Committed to Caring, our mission, a Hospice Aide is specifically trained, competent, and performs the provisions of hands-on personal care, simple procedures as an extension of therapy or nursing services, assistance in ambulation exercises, and administering medications (limited to helping with water or fluids) to patients in their residence under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN). The professional staff, whether direct employees or under arrangement, are expected to contribute to all phases of the QAPI program and participate in ongoing interdisciplinary assessments of patients. The Hospice Aide will collaborate in developing and revising the plan of care with the patient, their representative (if any), and caregiver(s).

Qualifications

  • Meets one of the requirements of Chapter 558.843
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the practicing state(s), preferred
  • CPR certification required
  • Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with strong interpersonal skills
  • Good customer relations skills and a commitment to quality service
  • Support for the core values and goals of the agency
  • Valid driver’s license, auto liability insurance, and reliable transportation; 100% travel may be required

Educational Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED; completion of the required training and competency course for Medicare Conditions of Participation and State Hospice Aide training program

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

  • Work indoors in agency offices and patient homes, with travel involved
  • Requires physical effort including kneeling, squatting, reaching, twisting, climbing, walking, and assisting in lifting/transferring patients up to 100 pounds
  • Must have adequate senses or adaptive devices to meet the position's duties
  • Annual TB test and other state-required examinations are required
  • Tolerance for exposure to odors, blood, body fluids, environmental conditions, and hazardous materials
