Job Summary

Cares for elderly, convalescent, or disabled persons in patients' homes by performing the following duties:

Essential Functions:

• Changes bed linens, washes and irons client's laundry, and cleans client's quarters.
• Cleans kitchen and bathroom fixtures and appliances, dusts and sweeps floors.
• Purchases, prepares, and serves food for clients, following any special prescribed diets.
• Assists clients into and out of bed, wheelchair, lavatory, and up and down stairs.
• Assists with dressing, bathing, toileting, and grooming.
• Assists with mobility and transfer for partial weight-bearing clients.
• Reads and writes essential correspondence for clients unable to do so.
• Entertains clients, reads aloud, and plays games with clients, especially in respite care situations.
• Performs miscellaneous duties such as obtaining household supplies and running errands.
• Maintains records of services performed and client's condition.
• Attends regular in-services on relevant care topics.

Duties (Advanced Personal Care):

Supervised by a Registered Nurse and in addition to the above:

• Hygiene care of persons with ostomies and catheters.
• Administering bowel programs.
• Application of aseptic dressings.
• Assistance with non-injectable medicines.
• Passive range of motion exercises.
• Assistance with transfer devices.

Additional Responsibilities:

Performs other related duties as assigned, adheres to all policies and procedures, participates in continuing education, maintains confidentiality, and reports incidents as required.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED.
• Training provided (minimum of two hours for CNAs; additional training for advanced personal care).
• Driver's license and proof of auto insurance.
