Job summary

Texans Together is seeking a Permanency Specialist to support children and families through the child welfare process and manage cases after removal and placement in substitute care.

You will assess needs, coordinate services and evaluations, conduct kinship home studies, plan permanency, and collaborate with legal, medical, and community partners to achieve positive outcomes. Some after-hours work and court testimony may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Human Development and Family Studies, Education, or Public Health; relevant experience considered in lieu.
• Minimum one year case management experience in CPS, CPI, DFPS.
• Experience in government or nonprofit child protection, foster care, juvenile justice, mental health, or substance abuse services.
• Familiarity with trauma-informed care and/or experience interviewing or assessing children and families.

Responsibilities

• Receive cases after children are removed and placed in care.
• Determine needs and ensure referrals for testing, evaluations, and records.
• Plan permanency with children, families, and communities.
• Identify kinship resources and complete kinship home studies.
• Meet with parents to assess safety and risk factors; connect to services.
• Attend court hearings, prepare reports, provide testimony.
• Maintain timely case communications with involved parties.
• Coordinate with kinship caregivers to support placement needs.
• Document case records and develop professional relationships with partners.
