Job description

HOME AUDIO REPAIR TECHNICIAN - Repair of HiFi Gear
Audiophiles & Music Lovers Wanted
Who we are

The Music Room is the world's largest dedicated reseller of pre-owned HiFi Audio Gear. We are a team of music lovers who are dedicated to a singular mission: delivering the very best online shopping experience in the HiFi industry. We feel that there is nothing more fulfilling than creating a high-performance, 2-channel HiFi system on any budget with carefully selected used components, speakers and cables. Currently, we are seeking to add additional repair technicians to our quality assurance team.

Job Description
REPAIR TECH

The Home Audio Repair Technician plays a critical role in optimizing the lifecycle and quality of our pre-owned consumer audio inventory. When our testers uncover operational issues or opportunities to restore a unit to our high standards, the product is routed to our repair team. Specializing strictly in home audio (not studio, live sound, or pro gear), The Music Room processes components and speakers across a vast array of brands and eras - spanning modern state-of-the-art to classic vintage technology.

Whether you are early in your repair career with strong fundamental skills or a seasoned pro, this role offers room to grow. You will work both independently and collaboratively to handle the full lifecycle of assigned gear: conducting initial intake and diagnostics, performing component-level bench testing and repairs, managing parts and repair queues, and documenting all updates in our ticketing system to ensure inventory listings stay current and units are promptly brought back to market.

Essential Functions
Component-Level Diagnostics & Technical Repair
  • Troubleshooting: Perform component-level fault isolation, signal tracing, and diagnostics on high-end 2-channel and home audio equipment.
  • Circuit & PCB Repair: Execute PCB soldering, desoldering, and hardware repair on both modern solid-state and legacy/vintage vacuum tube circuitry.
  • Equipment: Utilize bench test equipment—including oscilloscopes, multimeters, signal generators, and distortion analyzers to diagnose, calibrate, and verify performance to factory specifications.
  • Quality Assurance & Listing: Conduct rigorous final bench testing under load to certify functional safety, sonic performance, and reliability prior to listing items on our sales channels.
Inventory Control, Sourcing & Bench Logistics
  • Creative Problem Solving: Leverage technical ingenuity to source or adapt rare parts, including harvesting componentry from unrepairable units when original parts are obsolete.
  • Backlog & Workflow Hygiene: Manage individual bench repair queues to maximize throughput without sacrificing quality, keeping pace with a high volume of inventory intake.
  • Parts & Vendor Logistics: Maintain active bench inventory for common components, order specialized replacement parts, and coordinate third-party outsource repairs for specialized factory services.
Documentation & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Ticketing Accuracy: Meticulously document diagnostic findings, work performed, bill-of-materials, and labor phases in our internal ticketing system.
  • Cross-Team Support: Serve as a technical subject-matter expert for intake, testing, and customer-facing teams when technical inquiries arise.
Essential Qualifications
  • Demonstrated Technical Experience: Experience in component-level electronic diagnostics and repair, with a proven track record in high-end consumer HiFi audio, pro audio electronics, or a closely related vintage/modern electronics repair field.
  • Circuitry Experience: Grounding in electronic theory (Ohm's Law, AC/DC circuit analysis, bias adjustment) and familiarity with audio amplifier topologies, power supplies, and discrete semiconductor/tube circuits.
  • Precision Bench Skills: Experience in hand-soldering/desoldering techniques (THD & SMT) and proficiency operating oscilloscopes, multimeters, audio analyzers, and dummy loads.
  • Volume & Pace Efficiency: Ability to manage a steady workflow of diverse, multi-brand repairs efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Administrative Discipline: Organized and detailed, with strong written communication skills for tracking ticketing updates, parts inventories, and inter-departmental logistics.

Core Values
  • Innovation - DEFY THE GENRE - We are all about making some noise in our industry and doing things differently. We are: Experimental. Groundbreaking. Trailblazers. The HiFi Biz Remixed. We are always exploring and embracing change because we believe we can do it better.
  • Process - HIT ALL THE RIGHT NOTES - Every detail matters. We value: Fundamentals. Precision. Execution. Consistency. Everyone is playing from the same sheet of music. Our commitment to scalable processes is essential to achieving "standing ovations" from our customers.
  • Teamwork - NO SOLO ACTS - There's no lead singer taking the spotlight here. No room for oversized egos. We see the best in each other. We are a smart, talented, tight-knit band where everyone plays their part, and we work in harmony to produce incredible outcomes.
  • Passion - STAY FOR THE ENCORE - We are passionate about what we do, and we stay connected to each other and our audience through music. We are not a clock-in/clock-out, "go through the motions" organization. We have fun, but we also care deeply about our work, and we are fueled by our passion to achieve excellence.
  • Authenticity - NO CHEESY COVER SONGS - We stay true to the music that moves us with original compositions, performed in High Fidelity-Unfiltered communication. Integrity. Truth. Leave the "Hotel California" renditions at home. Let's make some original music that we can be proud of.

  • Compensation: Starting at $50,000+ (depending on qualifications and experience).
  • Medical, dental and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with employer match and profit-sharing eligibility
  • Paid time off, sick time and paid holidays
  • Employer paid $50,000 in life insurance and long-term disability coverage
  • Employee loaner gear program and opportunities to experience exceptional HiFi equipment
