Job summary

University of Mississippi Medical Center is seeking an HIV Outreach Specialist to provide direct and indirect client services, support linkage and retention in HIV care, and engage with the community. The role includes counseling on medication adherence, safe sex practices, and connecting People Living with HIV (PLWH) to available services.

Candidates must have education and experience in peer counseling or community outreach.

Qualifications

• Education and Experience: Degree (Associate or Bachelor) or High School Diploma/GED and two (2) years of peer counseling, community outreach, or case management experience.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Interviewing skills and knowledge of customer service principles and health-related issues; verbal and written communication; interpersonal skills.
• Responsibilities: Non-medical support for PLWH, outreach activities, and HIV education to clients or potential clients.

Responsibilities

• Provides specialized, non-medical support for PLWH, including peer counseling, outreach activities, and HIV education to clients or potential clients.
• Locates and re-engages PLWH who have been lost to HIV care, identifying barriers and addressing them.
• Facilitates linkage to care with open communication to PLWH using various techniques.
• Maintains contact with high-risk clients to prevent dropout of HIV care.
• Collaborates to provide HIV/STD education and linkage to care for priority populations.
• Connects clients to services and resources; maintains Ryan White databases and reporting.
