Job description

The Health Information Technology (HIT) Coordinator is responsible for supporting the management and maintenance of health information systems and ensuring the accuracy, security, and accessibility to SDMI staff, patients and physicians. This role ensures the integrity, confidentiality, and accessibility of electronic health records (EHR) and other health information systems, while complying with regulatory requirements and improving the quality of patient care. HIT Systems Coordinator will ensure all communication with Vendors is always professional, documented and in the best interest of SDMI. May perform other job related duties as necessary for the efficient operation of SDMI.

Key Responsibilities:

  • System Management and Maintenance:
    • Oversees the maintenance of EHR systems and other health information technology. All New implementations or new projects will be developed with the assistance of Leadership.
  • User Support and Training:
    • Provide support and as needed training to healthcare staff on the use of health information systems. Fully designed training manuals or training courses will be developed with assistance of Leadership
  • Data Management and Reporting:
    • Ensure monthly audits are completed of assigned databases
    • Ensure reporting to leadership is completed on a regular basis
    • Monitor data quality, ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations and implement improvements as necessary.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with healthcare staff and IT staff to ensure the effective use of health information technology.
    • Facilitate communication between different departments to optimize workflow
  • Ongoing education:
    • Seek opportunities to continue to grow in the field of HIT and Health Informatics
    • Willingly participates in cross‑training activities within the department for own professional growth in order to contribute to the overall function of SDMI.
MINIMUM SKILLS, ABILITY AND REQUIREMENTS
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience with HIT, Associates or HIT Certification preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Healthcare setting.
  • Medical Terminology and technical skills, a plus
  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Basic understanding of system data flow
  • Communication Skills
  • Must be able to work independently
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as necessary
  • Must have the ability to travel to multiple diagnostic clinics/administrative office
  • This position requires the ability to maintain effective working relationships with all employees including top levels of management.
  • Skill in organizing time to accommodate changes in workload and assignments in order to complete tasks in a timely manner.
  • Skill to pay attention to details and accuracy in completing tasks.
  • Responds positively to changes in assignments and priorities.
  • Works as an effective team member with co‑workers and other personnel.
  • Knows and follows all safety and evacuation guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Able to identify hazardous material in immediate work area.
  • Vehicle registration must be current while vehicle has to be reliable and auto insurance must be up to date.
  • Must possess a valid Nevada driver’s license.
  • Demonstrates punctuality by reporting to work on time/satisfactory attendance record that complies with SDMI attendance policy.
  • Takes full responsibility for all functions within job description and assures that all functions are completed before leaving SDMI at the end of the shift.
  • Any employee who discovers, is directly involved in or is responding to an event/occurrence/risk is required to complete or direct the completion of an occurrence report within 24 hours of event/occurrence/risk.
  • My job performance, including current competencies will be reviewed by my supervisor on a periodic basis. If my job performance/ current competencies are not (or continue to not be) at required level, this could result in additional training and/or disciplinary action.
  • Communicates effectively when follow up is needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
