Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health seeks a part-time Histology Technician to join the team in Burlington, MA. Under supervision, you will prepare surgical, biopsy, and autopsy specimens, embed, section, stain, and maintain QC records in compliance with regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities include tissue processing, H&E and special stains, data entry into the LIS, and ensuring proper waste handling. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma and ASCP registration preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent plus registration training.
• ASCP HT registration preferred.
• Experience in a hospital histology lab is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Embeds surgical, biopsy and autopsy specimens with proper orientation.
• Performs microtomy to produce high quality sections meeting standards.
• Conducts H&E staining and routine special stains with controls within time frames.
• Uses LIS to move workload and document progress.
• Performs non-routine procedures (Immunohistochemistry, muscle stains) with quality controls.
• Prepares stains and reagents and maintains stock levels.
• Performs basic maintenance and keeps a clean, organized work area.
• Handles chemicals and infectious materials per policy and participates in waste reduction.
• Supports departmental quality improvement activities and mandatory education.
