Responsibilities
- Embeds and sections processed tissue to produce slides for diagnosis; sections frozen tissue for quick diagnosis during surgery
- Performs special staining techniques for interstitial elements, antigens and enzymes for complex diagnosis and prognostic markers
- Conducts research and titrations of new antibodies used as diagnostic tools; serves as a consultant to lab and clinical staff
- Maintains work area and equipment for embedding and sectioning; maintains processing equipment and stains
- Works in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision and decisive action
