Performs specialized medical tissue testing and administrative tasks to support clinical activities. Responsibilities include preparing tissue samples for analysis by pathologists to determine causes of death, disease, and treatment courses.

Responsibilities:

1. Investigate problems with equipment, test results, specimens, and workflow.
2. Participate in teams or perform special projects/assignments.
3. Perform quality control and equipment maintenance.
4. Conduct routine and specialized test procedures, including preparing tissue slides through processing, embedding, sectioning, examining, and staining tissues from various sources.
5. Teach Clinical Laboratory Science students, Pathology residents, and train new employees, serving as a technical resource.
6. Prepare specimens, reagents, solutions, and perform necessary heating or filtering.
7. Provide leadership and guidance to co-workers.
8. Report results to healthcare providers and consult regarding test results.
9. Review test results for accuracy and ensure timely correction of errors.

Other Information

Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry Science, or Biological Science.

Licensure/Certification Requirements: HTL(ASCP) certification by the ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) within two years of hire.

Professional Experience Requirements: No experience required if holding a Bachelor's degree plus completion of an NAACLS-accredited histology program; otherwise, one year of relevant laboratory experience if holding a Bachelor's in biological or chemical science.
