Job summary

Northwestern Medicine seeks a Histotechnologist to perform routine histology procedures, prepare stained slides, and coordinate with pathologists and staff. The role requires maintaining quality control, accurate documentation, and compliance with SOPs in a fast-paced laboratory setting.

The position works Monday through Friday from 3:00pm to 11:30pm, totaling 40 hours per week, and may involve participation in safety, infection control, and training of students and new staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in the biological, physical, chemical, life sciences, medical laboratory technology, or histology.
• HTL (ASCP) certification or HTL (ASCP) eligible. If eligible must take and pass the national certifying exam within one year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Performs cassette-log reconciliation and manages tissue processing with standard SOPs.
• Embeds tissues and ensures adequacy of processing and block orientation.
• Operates microtome and staining instruments, documents results and quality issues.
• Performs gross examination and selects representative tissue when applicable.
• Maintains documentation throughout all steps and adheres to regulatory compliance.
