Job summary

Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital is seeking a Histotechnician for a full-time, first-shift role at Delnor Hospital in Geneva. The incumbent will perform routine histology where tissues are embedded, sectioned, stained, and prepared for microscopic review by Pathologists, with strict adherence to SOPs and quality standards.

Responsibilities include documentation, instrument operation, and participation in quality and safety programs.

Qualifications

• Associates degree (if hired after 1/19/2025) with a combination of biology/chemistry coursework OR 60 semester hours including biology/chemistry to qualify for the national exam.
• HT ASCP certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
• Must meet requirements for high complexity testing per CLIA and accrediting agencies.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine histology procedures and prepares slides for pathologist review.
• Embeds tissues and ensures adequacy of processing per SOPs.
• Maintains accurate documentation across LIS, cassettes, slides and logs for regulatory compliance.
• Operates microtome and automated staining instruments; handles downtimes with manual methods.
• Participates in safety, infection control, and quality system activities as required.

Education
