Job summary

VCU Health is seeking a Histotechnologist to prepare and process pathology specimens for pathologist review. The role involves staining slides with routine, special, and immunohistochemical methods, labeling, and tracking specimens until diagnosis.

Responsibilities include ensuring quality controls, maintaining equipment, and managing inventory. Weekend/holiday on-call duties may apply. Certified HT/HLT credentials are required with a 12-month certification window for new graduates.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Science preferred.
• ASCP HT or HL T certification required or equivalent.
• New graduates must certify within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform histological procedures including complex staining and immunohistochemical techniques.
• Determine appropriate handling and prioritization of tissue samples for microscopic analysis.
• Utilize histology equipment for processing and staining.
• Microscopically analyze slides and controls and adjust procedures as needed.
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of lab equipment.
• Maintain archive of slides and blocks.
• Contribute to quality control and quality assurance documentation.
• Monitor supplies to maintain inventory.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
