Job summary

UPMC is seeking an experienced Histotechnologist/Histotechnician to process and prepare specialized tissue samples in a clinical laboratory. The role includes monitoring work quality, evaluating new procedures, and resolving issues that affect test results.

Candidates may be hired at Histotechnologist or Histotechnician level depending on experience and education. A successful candidate will work in a fast-paced histology setting with emphasis on accuracy and safety.

Qualifications

• Proficient in histology techniques and staining.
• Knowledge of quality control for tissue processing.
• Ability to follow laboratory protocols and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrates progression toward independent work in an advanced staining area.
• Maintain instruments following QC specifications and daily maintenance protocols.
• Process and prepare tissue specimens for embedding, cutting, staining and coverslipping.
• Ensure proper patient identification and tissue orientation throughout processing.
• Perform QC checks at each phase of processing/staining.
• Assist with filing, cleaning, and stocking supplies.
