Schedule: 5x8, afternoon, evening or overnight

3 locations: Tukwila WA, Richland, WA & Missoula MT

Commensurate experience & HT Certificate (ASCP or such)


Histotechnologistis responsible for performing all routine procedures in orienting, sectioning, and staining tissue specimens to produce slides which will aide pathologists in diagnosis. The position requires team work to achieve common goals and meet deadlines to provide quality care to clients and patients. Additionally, the position requires understanding of complex special procedures, techniques, principles, and theory. The position may support the supervisor in running the day-to-day operations of the histology department.

You Will:

  • May provide leadership for others
  • Assist in training Histology Staff
  • Assist with providing feedback for the timely completion of performance evaluations (Lead Only)
  • Provide operational oversight
  • Lead validation studies and other process improvements
  • Perform advanced staining
  • Submit derms and one-steppers: provide backup for Grossing Tech when needed
  • Maintain equipment, instruments, and supplies as needed
  • Prepare reagents and stains according to designated procedures
  • Embed, cut, and stain tissue blocks according to designated procedures
  • Maintain productivity standards: Microtomy 20 blocks/hour and Embedding 50 blocks/hour
  • Maintain knowledge of current CAP requirements
  • Assist with oversight of quality assurance records and logs
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education/Certifications

  • HT or HTL ASCP certified, required
  • QHIC preferred

Skills and Abilities

  • Four years of laboratory experience, prefer 1 year in histology laboratory setting
  • Ability to lead others, experience in a leadership or training role preferred
  • Experience with advanced staining validations preferred
  • Ability to use a computer.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
