Job Summary and Qualifications

The histotechnologist processes surgical pathology specimens and body fluids for review by a pathologist. Proficiency in cutting frozen sections, special stains, and immunohistochemical stains is required. Responsibilities also include processing send-out tests, routine equipment maintenance, quality control, and record keeping.

What you will do in this role:

  • Maintain cleanliness and safety of the work area.
  • Follow protocols for critical value checks and reporting.
  • Check and reconcile outstanding tests and draws per SOP.
  • Adhere to work hours and punctuality policies.
  • Maintain competency in technical areas, assist in Bone Marrow procedures.
  • Perform and report tests accurately, work effectively under stress.
  • Complete workload within time frames, assist team members.
  • Perform tests during computer downtime following SOPs.
  • Troubleshoot and document instrument maintenance and malfunctions.
  • Perform and document quality control procedures.
  • Review and reconcile computer reports.
  • Prioritize and perform STAT tests promptly.
  • Promote teamwork, support colleagues, respect management.
  • Identify patients and specimens accurately using two identifiers.
  • Record equipment temperature checks.
  • Participate in proficiency and competency testing.
What qualifications you will need:
  • Must possess HT(ASCP) or equivalent certification or be eligible to sit for the exam.
  • High school diploma required; Associate’s or B.S. degree preferred.
  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience preferred.
