Job description

Position Objective

Performs tasks required for receiving, processing, and preparing patient tissue samples for microscopic examination and analysis by the Pathologist.

Essential Job Duties

  2. Maintain a safe and clean work environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. Foster cooperation within and between departments to ensure smooth workflow. Operate and maintain laboratory instrumentation, perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and manage laboratory supplies by checking stock levels, anticipating needs, and verifying receipt of supplies. Use equipment and supplies efficiently to achieve job results.
  3. Provide clinical laboratory information by answering questions and requests, and interpreting test results. Participate in training new staff and students, serving as a mentor and technical resource.
  4. Perform embedding, sectioning, special stains, immunochemistry, and frozen sections, adhering to productivity guidelines with minimal errors.
  5. Participate actively in the laboratory quality plan/program, perform daily quality controls, document QC, troubleshoot issues, and participate in external proficiency testing. Engage in continuing education to maintain licensure and stay updated on advancements in the Medical Technology field.
Educational/Experience Requirements

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with coursework meeting the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) requirements for Histotechnologist certification.

Preferred: One year of experience in an acute care facility as a Histotechnologist or Histotechnician.

Required License/Certifications

HTL(ASCP)

Working Conditions, Equipment, Physical Demands

Exposure to blood-borne pathogens is expected.

Physical Demands: Medium work. Exerting up to 50 pounds occasionally, 30 pounds frequently, and 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
