Job summary

The University of Rochester is seeking a Histology Technician to perform grossing, embedding, microtomy, special stains, and immunohistochemistry to support a pathologist. Strong adherence to safety and departmental procedures is essential. Associate degree in histology or medical laboratory technology is required, with NYSED licensure on hire.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in applied sciences in Histology or Medical Laboratory Technology required.
  • Previous experience as a histology technician preferred.
  • NYSED licensure required upon hire (Histotechnician) or NYS Medical Laboratory Technician Licensure upon hire.

Responsibilities

  • Grosses sections of human tissue for examination.
  • Operates laboratory equipment to embed, section and stain specimens.
  • Operates equipment to perform special staining and Immunohistochemistry stains as requested.
  • Follows departmental policies, quality objectives, and safety standards.
  • Examines slides under a microscope to ensure quality standards.
  • Performs maintenance on laboratory equipment and troubleshooting.
  • Supports training of other technologists and residents.
  • Other duties as assigned.
