Job summary

Katmai Government Services is seeking a Histology Technician to prepare tissue specimens for microscopic examination, load and operate tissue processors, and embed tissue into paraffin blocks. You will cut high-quality sections, perform special stains, and ensure QA/QC across equipment and reagents.

The role requires a NAACLS/ABHES or ASCP-acceptable histology program, HT-ASCP/HTL-ASCP certification, and at least one year of recent histology experience.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a histology technician training program accredited by NAACLS or ABHES or ASCP-acceptable program.
• HT-ASCP/HTL-ASCP certification required.
• At least 1 year of histology experience within the last 3 years.
• Knowledge of histochemical and immunohistochemical principles, theory, and methods.
• Experience with specialized histology equipment and basic troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Load, operate, and manage reagents on automated tissue processors.
• Embed tissue into paraffin blocks.
• Cut tissue with rotary microtome to 2-5 micron sections.
• Perform immunohistochemical tests and special stains as required.
• Conduct quality control on equipment, reagents, and products; maintain records.
• Prepare specimens for transport to MTF or mailing.
• Prepare biological waste for disposal.
• Maintain punctual attendance and perform additional duties as assigned.
